During the Maatariki celebrations on June 24th-27th, Braemar Charitable Trust worked in partnership with YWAM Medical Ships Aotearoa/Trinity Lands Limited, Raukura Hauora o Tainui, Huntly Dental and dental/oral health professionals from within and outside our region, to provide free dental care and oral health education to 117 patients. Approx. $71,500 worth of dental services were provided including 162 extractions and 103 restorative procedures. 10 patients were also referred to Braemar's charitable surgery programme.
The 3 mobile clinics located at Raukura’s North Waikato clinic adjacent to Ngaruawahia’s Turangawaewae Marae, meant the service was accessible to the community in a way, at a location and at a time when many families/whanau were together celebrating Maatariki. It was an exciting community-led and impactful initiative, made possible through organisations working together in a voluntary capacity to address an area of significant unmet need and with a common vision of improving oral and dental health outcomes in our community.
We were delighted to be part of this initiative and would like to acknowledge and thank all of the dental and oral health professionals who very generously donated their time and expertise.
