The second of the University of Waikato/Braemar Charitable Trust Summer Student Research Scholarship recipient's, is Julian Seagar. Julian's research was Genomic analysis of antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae from the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. Neisseria gonorrhoeae causes the sexually transmitted infection, gonorrhoea. It has been listed as a high priority pathogen by the World Health Organisation due to posing a major threat to human health and has developed resistance to every antibiotic used to treat it since the 1930’s. A summary of Julian's research is set out in the this poster. The Trust is delighted to be able to contribute to growing the capability of the next generation of researchers in our region, as well as contributing to research that improves health outcomes in our community.
